Good evening,
I'm writing to inform you that we've gone through all the submissions at Literazzi headquarters.
Unfortunately, we can't accept your work right now. Much of this has to do with small amount of room and high quality of submissions. Each one of your stories or poems (or art) was read by me, I can assure you. I hate writing emails like this, because as a fellow writer, I know the time and dedication that you all put into each letter on the page. Make no mistake, you and your endeavors are a vital part of Literazzi's mission. Part of our literacy work is purely selfish: if people can't read, we can't write.
Thank you again for submitting and I hope you'll stick around to read and perhaps participate in a future Anthology.
Cheers,
Kristin

Writers of the Future Contest: form rejection
Dear Entrant,
We are working on ways to make the contest results faster and
have worked out that as stories are judged, you are notified
of results as soon as possible.
Your story has now been judged and did not win or place in
the 4th quarter. Even though you have never had to wait for
results in order to submit for the next quarter, this hopefully
gives you incentive to submit for Quarter 1, which is happening
now, the deadline being 31 December. The more often you enter,
the better chance you have of winning and contest judges always
tell contestants to write as much as possible.
I do urge you to join our forum if you have not already, or subscribe
to our judge, David Farland's newsletter. Lots of great tips at both
locations to help you.
I do hope you are already working on that next story and do let me
know that you did get this e-mail.
Best regards,
Joni Labaqui

Follow-up:
Dear Kalin,
It is good to see you still submitting your work. As usual, you have a very unique way of writing. :)
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to read "A Story with No Moral." Unfortunately, we will have to pass on this one as it's not quite what we're looking for. It was interesting, but did not completely grab me.
We wish you the best placing your work. We appreciate your interest in The Washington Pastime and hope that you will keep us in mind for future submissions.
We encourage you to mark The Washington Pastime response time at duotrope.com, as we try hard to respond promptly to submissions.
All the best,

Thank you, Paul. :)
I have depleted our "stash" of pieces, translated or original, so you
will hear from us no more often than from your regular contributors.
Yet something tells me you're anything but bored ... could it be those

Story Quest Short Story Contest: semi-personal rejection
Dear YYYYY,
Thank you for sending us XXXXX. We appreciate the chance to read it.
Unfortunately, while your story got through to round 2, it did not succeed in getting into the Finalist list. The field was very good - our best in the history of the contest - and we can safely say that your story contributed to this high quality set of submissions.
Thanks again. Best of luck with this.

The Washington Pastime: personal rejection
Dear YYYYY,
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to read XXXXX. Unfortunately, we will have to pass on this one as it's not quite what we're looking for. The premise of the piece was interesting, but it did not completely grab me. The story was a bit too slow to start, so it took me a while to really sink into it. That aside, the prose style and humor both bear promise; however, they do need some fine-tuning.
We wish you the best placing your work. We appreciate your interest in The Washington Pastime and hope that you will keep us in mind for future submissions.

Crazyhorse: form rejection
Dear YYYYY,
Thank you for sending your manuscript XXXXX, number 35209, to us here at Crazyhorse via the online submission manager.
We are sorry this particular manuscript was not selected for publication in Crazyhorse. We hope you will send us another soon, though. We could not publish Crazyhorse without the fine writing submitted to us. While we regret that the large number of submissions we receive makes it difficult for the editors to respond personally, we want to emphasize that an editor personally read your manuscript. Devoted reading is part of the Crazyhorse editorial mission; it is also our own personal one.
If this manuscript was a prize entry: we are sorry this prize entry was not selected for the Crazyhorse fiction or poetry prize or for publication in Crazyhorse. We receive many fine prize entries, so it was a difficult decision to make. Thank you for sending us your manuscript to read, and thank you for supporting the nonprofit Crazyhorse with your entry's subscription. By the end of May we will announce the prize winners and finalists on the Crazyhorse website, by e-mail list, and by SASE if you included one with your entry.
Thank you for supporting the journal with your reading, writing, and subscribing,

The Washington Pastime: personal rejection (our longest & most concrete ever)
follow-up:
Dear YYYYY
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to read XXXXX. Unfortunately, we will have to pass on this one as it's not quite what we're looking for. The concept of the piece was interesting, but it did not completely grab me. The encounter with the skinhead, as well as the comments about Johnny's race feel a bit put of place. I wasn't sure why they were important to the story. If they are indeed integral aspects, then they might benefit from further exploration. The story also seems to lack direction. Does it want to focus on Andy and Johnny, or Andy and Al. I think that it might help to center the story around Andy and Al, especially since their backstory feels a bit rushed and crammed into the prose. Their story also feels as though it carries more -- maybe even the most -- weight. It would be good to explore more deeply their meeting, transformation, and relationship. Andy's special abilities need further development, as well. In addition, I found myself wanting to know more details about the transformation itself and how it affected Andy's life. Getting to see more of his journey might help to smooth out and ground the plot.
We wish you the best placing your work. We appreciate your interest in The Washington Pastime and hope that you will keep us in mind for future submissions.

Beneath Ceaseless Skies: personal rejection
Thanks very much for sending this story to _Beneath Ceaseless Skies_.
Unfortunately, it's not quite right for us. ZZZZZ's perspective didn't
draw me in as strongly as I'd prefer; I wished I got a stronger sense of
what was at stake for him in exploring the road, and the amount of
reflection and backstory in the opening pages slowed the pace more than
I'd hoped.
We appreciate your interest in our magazine. Please feel free to submit
other work in the future.

Washington Pastime: personal rejection
Dear YYYYY,
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to read XXXXX. Unfortunately, we will have to pass on this one as it's not quite what we're looking for. The premise of the piece was interesting, but it did not completely grab me. While some of the descriptive language is quite lovely, the prose, overall, feels a bit overwrought in some areas. This gives a bit of an uneven feel to the rhythm of the prose, and makes for a sort of stilted read.

Pulp Corner: personal rejection
Dear Kalin Nenov,
Thank you for submitting XXXXX to the Pulp Corner and for taking a chance on a new venture.
Although there was a lot that I liked in this story, unfortunately, the piece is not for us.
I felt that the end needed a little more "hope"--maybe an answer to how characters survive in order to tell the story. I also felt that the end was telegraphed somewhat.
Thanks again. Best of luck with this.

Ray Gun Revival: personal rejection
Dear YYYYY,
Thank you for your submission to Ray Gun Revival. I regret to inform you that we are unable to use it at this time.
Following are some comments for your edification by the mighty Slushmasters:
-----
I finished it but the translation isn't great. Lacklustre, sappy ending. Not really a RGR story.
-----
No action per se, but a very good story. It needs cleaning up a bit, though.
-----
Hope that feedback helps in your journey as a short fiction author. We wish you good luck in placing the story elsewhere.

Escape Pod: apologetic form rejection
Dear Author-
Yeah, it's one of those "dear author" emails. I'm sorry.
Escape Pod misfiled some stories (like, a lot) and we realized many in 2011 hadn't been responded to. So this month we are hitting all the stories we had in the backlog, so the good news is you finally got an answer, the bad news is you're getting a "not for us" answer in the horrible impersonal way.
I hope you can understand that we are doing this in order to get caught up so that we don't treat your next submission so poorly. I hope you submit to us again, and get an acceptance, or at worst, a personalized note with your rejection.
Apologies-
Mur Lafferty
