A piece of early morning beauty, on that edge between dreams and wakefulness when breathing is still hard, tears are still easy:

Re: And share the Beauty
We don't have a topic for sharing the Sadness, so I'll put this here. In any case, it's about sharing Beauty too.
And it's yours for the taking.
After some discussion about song lyrics and copyright, I removed the lyrics and wrote:Кал wrote:Dear Editors:
I just read the three stories in _Up and Coming_ that were originally
published in _Shimmer_ ... and I'm immediately sending you one of
mine. I believe it may make you shimmer.
"Seven Nights with the Sea" is about 5,500 words.
Кал wrote:I'm attaching the reworked version of the first night below (which used to be the most "lyrics-heavy"). Also, this gets rid of the need for fancy formatting ... whew. :)
Is yours a "hard no"? If not, I'll send you the whole journey ... and let you decide.
The editor wrote:Yes, I'm passing on this one.
I think if an author uses a technique, and then can easily abandon it, the story doesn't work; if the story doesn't need that technique, why ever use it at all?
Now ... does anyone want some of this beauty? It's bright and bright-eyed and angry and all the other things that make us young.Кал wrote:The lyrics were not so much a technique but the way my thought worked
at the time when I wrote the story. Some 15 years ago. :)
(Occasionally, I still think in lyrics, but it happens much more
rarely.) Now that I've changed, I'm positive the story can be told in
another way too. It's not about music, and the lyrics are not an
integral part of it--more like an idiosyncrasy. It's about growth and
miracles and growing miracles in our (seemingly) drab life.
Anyway, please forgive me for encroaching on your time. I still love
"Seven Nights", and I think it can make a great fit for the spirit of
_Shimmer_. But I won't press you any more.
And it's yours for the taking.

Re: And share the Beauty
So, I was doing linguistic research today--for my translations, you understand--and then I run into this article on twerking.
The language ... the language!
(Eh, the pics too ....)
